Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Sun, July 11, 2010

6:30 AM Depart Worman’s Mill Town Square Merchant St., Frederick, with breakfast, lunch, and rest stops en route to Massachusetts.
5:15 PM Arrival at The Courtyard by Marriott, Hyannis conveniently located one mile from downtown Hyannis and next to the Cape Cod Mall with numerous shops and restaurants. Phone (508) 775-6600. Welcome reception upon arrival where we will meet our guide to welcome us to Cape Cod.
6:30 PM Dinner included at Alberto's in downtown Hyannis. Evening at leisure.

Day 2: Mon, July 12, 2010

8:30 AM A tasty buffet breakfast will be served at the hotel dining room. Our local guide meets us at the hotel for a day of touring the Mid-Cape region touring the villages of Hyannis, Hyannis Port, and Centerville, continuing along scenic Old King's Highway to the Village of Sandwich, Cape Cod’s oldest town.
10:00 AM Admission included to the Heritage Museum and Gardens. Enjoy the magnificent landscaped grounds, the 1912 carousel, and the collections of folk art, scrimshaw, bird carvings, Currier and Ives prints, and the mint condition antique and classic automobiles; something for everyone.
12:00 PM Relax and enjoy the Grand Buffet Luncheon at the charming and historic Daniel Webster Inn. After lunch, a photo stop will be made in the village center where we will see the Hoxie House (Cape Cod's oldest house) and the working Grist Mill on lovely Shawme Pond.
2:00 PM Admission to the Sandwich Glass Museum in peaceful Sandwich. See collections of glass and an interesting demonstration of glass blowing, watch the informative video presentation about rural life at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, enjoy special exhibits, and shop in the charming gift store.
3:00 PM Continue our touring returning to the Hyannis areas to see the Saint Francis Xavier Church and stop at the John F. Kennedy Memorial overlooking Lewis Bay.
4:30 PM Free time to explore downtown Hyannis. Guide departs. Dinner on own.

Day 3: Tue, July 13, 2010

8:00 AM The Courtyard Marriot serves a delicious breakfast buffet. Enjoy! Departing with our local guide, we will cover the length of Cape Cod to Province-town ("lands end") at the tip of Cape Cod. As we travel, we will learn about the Pilgrim's first landing here in 1620 before reaching Plymouth and the visionary establishment of the magnificent Cape Cod National Seashore by John F. Kennedy's administration. We will learn about cranberries, kettle ponds, Cape's architecture, sea captains and whaling, the legend of Princess Scargo, the "Graveyard of Ships" and more.
11:00 AM Board an enclosed 4-wheel drive dune taxi for a fun and informative driving tour across the dunes of the National Seashore Park. Learn about the history of life saving stations and dune shacks while enjoying the endless mountains of sand.
1:00 PM Hungry? A delicious lobster luncheon is waiting in Provincetown at Napi's. Group will scatter after lunch as we will have some free time. This town is a diverse community with a long history as a fishing and whaling port and a haven for artists.
4:00 PM A thrilling whale watch cruise on the Dolphin Fleet is next on the agenda. What fun! The cruise is narrated by whale experts from the Center for Coastal Studies, and the cruise line has a 99% whale sightseeing record. After the cruise, we will have time to scatter for an ice cream cone, snack, etc. You won’t want much!
9:30 PM Approximate return to the hotel after an enjoyable day. Guide departs.

Day 4: Wed, July 14, 2010

8:00 AM Rise and shine! Enjoy the hotel buffet breakfast this morning at leisure. Our local guide meets us at the hotel for touring Woods Hole. A ferry ride transports you to the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard traveling the "Upper Cape" to Falmouth. This island is known for visits by presidents and royalty.
10:15 AM As we arrive at Martha's Vineyard, we will board our island bus for a complete island tour. Have your camera handy. Walk through the Campground and Tabernacle area of Oak Bluffs with its many colorful "Gingerbread Cottages," followed by scenic touring along the ocean to Edgartown.
12:00 PM Our island luncheon today is at the Seafood Shanty followed by free time to shop and explore Edgartown, once a prominent whaling town.
2:30 PM Touring continues to the westernmost community on the island, Aquinnah (Gay Head) best known for its great clay cliffs, now a National Historic Landmark.
5:00 PM Depart Martha's Vineyard by ferry.
7:00 PM Approximate return to the hotel. Guide departs and dinner is on your own.

Day 5: Thu, July 15, 2010

7:15 AM The Courtyard by Marriott provides a delicious buffet breakfast this morning. Bags outside your door when going to breakfast.
8:15 AM Depart hotel with fond memories of the Cape Cod area and the new friends you have met while on touring.
8:00 PM Approximate arrival in Frederick.
